Indian cricket team's Test and ODI captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli have retired from the T20 format. After both of them retiring from one format, some cricket pundits and former cricketers believe that Rohit Sharma may soon retire from ODI and Test formats as well. Whereas, regarding Virat Kohli, all of them believe that he still has four to five years of cricket left in him.
Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh has also given a statement about the future of these two players. Bhajji believes that senior Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have the ability to continue playing international cricket and now the pair will decide their future. The former Indian spinner believes that Kohli can play international cricket for the next five years with his excellent fitness, while Test and ODI captain Rohit can play for at least two more years.
“Rohit can easily play for two more years. Looking at Virat Kohli's fitness, you never know he will be competing for five years. He is probably the fittest player in the team.
You ask any 19-year-old player about competing with Virat (in terms of fitness). Virat is better than him. He is that fit. I believe Virat and Rohit have a lot of cricket left in them and it is completely up to them. If they are fit enough, they are performing well and the team is winning, they should continue playing. It's as simple as that,” Harbhajan said in an interview to PTI Videos.Harbhajan believes that Test cricket is a format where you need both.
He further said, “In red ball cricket, you really need to play both these players a little more than people expect. You need experience in all formats, whether it is limited overs cricket or Test cricket. You need experienced cricketers to groom the emerging talent. The selectors have to see that if someone is not performing well, he should be dropped. Whether he is a senior player or a junior. But as long as everyone is fit, they should be selected in the team.”
