Former Indian fast bowler Jhulan Goswami has recently made a big statement about the future of women's cricket.

Goswami says that there is a way forward for the development of women's cricket. In such a situation, there is a need to focus on T20 leagues around the world. At present, tournaments like Women's Premier League (WPL), Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), The Hundred and Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) are being held around the world, which is promoting women's cricket.

Goswami said, “This is a big challenge for women's cricket. Earlier we had seen such things happening for men's cricket but never thought that this would happen for women's cricket, but it is happening and I am happy to see this.

ICC needs to keep in mind, franchise cricket is the future of women's cricket. This is the development of women's cricket globally. You have to give priority to every franchise league otherwise cricket will not move forward.”

The former cricketer further added, “Look at how many quality cricketers franchise cricket has produced in the last few years from WBBL as well as Hundred, WCPL and WPL.

We should make sure that when the Premier League (franchise) tournaments are on, give them certain windows and after that you have bilateral series. This will also help in the development of women's cricket. If your bilateral series and franchise leagues clash, you will be deprived of quality cricketers. And if you don't have quality cricketers, your tournament will not be successful.”

Indian women cricketers including Smriti Mandhana, Richa Ghosh, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma and Shreyanka Patil have played and excelled in franchise leagues around the world.

The WPL has also seen the rise of cricketers like Sajeevan Sajna and Asha Shobhana, who made their debuts for India after last season.
