After delivering a spectacular performance for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, ending up with 24 wickets in the competition, the most by any bowler in the WC campaign, Mohammed Shami underwent a recovery phase to heal the ankle injury he suffered in the World Cup.
Shami has since been away from the field. However, the pacer is making significant strikes and could likely join the India squad in the upcoming series against Bangladesh. "It's difficult to say when I will be back," Shami was quoted as saying during his felicitation ceremony by East Bengal club here earlier this month. Though he isn't sure when he could return to India, he is doing what he can to work his way towards attaining fitness.
He will return to action in the domestic circuit, playing for Bengal, and aims to climb up to the international front afterwards. "I am trying hard, but hopefully you will get to see me in Bengal colors before I don the India jersey again. I will come to play two-three matches for Bengal and will come fully prepared for it," Shami said. Mohammed Shami will go down as one of the finest all-time bowlers of India. The seamer has amassed a heap of wickets in both ODIs and Tests, moreover, he is still a force to be reckoned with at 33. Although, one has to go through cut-throat competition to cement a place in the Indian team, being a match-winner and after everything he has achieved for India, the selectors might make an exception for Shami and will include him in the roster whenever he will be ready for it.
