Vinesh Phogat performed brilliantly in the Paris Olympics 2024. She made it to the finals in the 50 kg category of women's wrestling and was considered a contender to win the gold medal. Along with her, the whole country was preparing for victory, but an incident before the final match broke everyone's heart. According to the rules, during the weighing, her weight was found to be 100 grams more and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) disqualified her. Due to this decision, she was not only out of the final match, but she also lost the chance to get the silver medal. Vinesh appealed against this decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), the biggest court of sports, but it did not work out.

The result was that she had to return empty-handed from Paris. However, now this sorrow of returning empty-handed has gone away not from silver but from gold.

Villagers gave gold medal

After being disqualified, Vinesh Phogat had filed a petition against the IOC's decision in CAS. In her petition, she had demanded joint silver. However, CAS considered the decision of United World Wrestling (UWW) and IOC to be correct and rejected her appeal. This decision came as a big shock to Vinesh.

She was sad about not getting the silver medal, which she also mentioned. Seeing the Indian wrestler sad, the Khap Panchayat of Haryana had promised to honour her with a gold medal. In such a situation, as soon as Vinesh reached her village Balali from Paris, she was awarded the gold medal.

Felicitation ceremony for Vinesh

Vinesh usually participated in the 53 kg weight category, but this time in the Paris Olympics, she wrestled in the 50 kg category.

Despite this, she defeated the world's number 1 wrestler Yui Susaki. But she had to work hard to maintain her weight. Before the final, her weight suddenly increased more than normal, to reduce which she kept sweating all night without eating or drinking anything. Despite this, she had to be out of the competition. Seeing this spirit, the Khap Panchayat had decided to give her a gold medal. On August 17, she landed at Delhi airport. After this, she traveled for 13 hours and reached her village. A special felicitation ceremony was organized for her in Vinesh's village, where she was awarded the gold medal.
