Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the players of the Indian team going to Paris Paralympics and encouraged them. Disabled players participate in the Paralympic Games. These games are going to start from 28th August and will be played till 8th September. Let us tell you, the last Paralympic was very special for India. Indian Paralympian players created history by winning a total of 19 medals including 5 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze. This was the country's best performance in the Paralympics so far, due to which India stood 24th in the table.
While interacting with the Indian contingent, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with para shooter Avani Lekhara.
PM Modi said, 'In the last Paralympics, you made the whole country proud by winning 2 medals including 1 gold. What is your goal this time? Avni Lekhara replied, 'Last time, it was my first Paralympic Games. So, I was participating in 4 events and gaining experience. In this Paralympics, I have gained maturity in sports. I will try to give my best in all the events I am participating in. Avani Lekhara won the gold medal in the 10 meter air event SH-1 in the 2020 Paralympics. After this, she won the bronze medal for the country in the 50 meter rifle three position. For this excellent performance, Avani was awarded the title of Best Female Debut in the Paralympic Awards 2021. In the year 2022, Avani Lekhara also created history by winning gold in the Para Shooting World Cup. Avani has received awards like Khel Ratna Award, Young Indian of the Year, Padma Shri and Para Athlete of the Year.
