It was exactly 3 years ago, when amid the despair and sadness of the Covid pandemic, there was only one name on the lips of the whole of India. The face of the same person was seen repeatedly on the media. That person was seen laden with flower garlands in the programs being held in different parts of the country. He was making everyone happy by hiding his fatigue with happiness and smile on his face. Now, after 3 years, once again that person became the reason for happiness for the country, but that happiness was not seen on that face, rather a little disappointment along with determination was also seen - the resolve to repeat the 3-year-old situation after 4 years.

With this resolve, this person is coming down to improve and prove himself again in just 14 days. The name is - Neeraj Chopra. After winning the silver medal in the Paris Olympics, Neeraj will now be seen in the Lausanne Diamond League.

Neeraj Chopra lost to Arshad Nadeem

Neeraj, who created history by winning the gold medal in javelin throw at Tokyo Olympics 2020, was expected to repeat this success in Paris 2024 as well. History does repeat itself but sometimes it takes time and this time it happened the same way.

Neeraj Chopra made a great throw, which was even better than the throw that won him the gold medal at Tokyo Olympics, but this time he could not get the gold medal because Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem performed amazingly and won the gold with an Olympic record of 92.97 meters.

As per his habit, Neeraj did not return home empty handed and won the silver medal with 89.45 meters. This was historic in itself as he became the first Indian athlete to win gold and silver medals in the Olympics. There was some disappointment in the country as well but the silver medal and Neeraj's success definitely gave a chance to rejoice again.

However, Neeraj was not able to hide his disappointment during this time even if he wanted to. He missed the gold this time and Arshad, who had lost to him in the last 9 matches, finally succeeded in winning over Neeraj for the first time.

Forgetting the injury, he will take part in the Dynd League

Neeraj, who returned to the country after winning the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, was given a warm welcome and he participated in many felicitation programs, did advertisement shoots and celebrated with everyone and then did not play any event in the rest of the year.

This time Neeraj is not doing so. After winning silver in Paris, he has not yet returned to India and from there he went to Germany, where he was consulting a doctor about his groin injury. Amidst the possibility of surgery, Neeraj decided to participate in the Diamond League round in Lausanne, Switzerland. This is his first event after the Olympic final. However, Arshad Nadeem will not participate in it but there will be many big contenders including Paris bronze medalist Anderson Peters and Yakub Wadlech.

Not just gold, this pain also remains

Neeraj did win silver in Paris and the disappointment was definitely visible on his face.

Anyone can understand that the other reason for this disappointment was his performance. In the final, only one of Neeraj's 6 throws was considered valid, which won him a medal. The remaining 5 throws were either fouls or forced fouls due to poor throw. Also, he failed to break the 90 meter mark once again, the pain of which was clearly visible in his statements. In search of this 90 meter mark and to maintain the habit of winning by staying on top once again, Neeraj is participating in this Lausanne leg of the Diamond League.
