BCCI secretary Jay Shah has finally been elected as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council. Jay Shah was elected unopposed to this post, where he will replace the current chairman Greg Barclay from December 1. On the last day of the nomination on Tuesday, 27 August, Jay Shah was the only candidate who got the support of all the members of the ICC Board. After this, the ICC officially announced his selection. Now as ICC Chairman, Jay Shah will face important challenges in world cricket for the next few years, ranging from the Champions Trophy to promoting women's cricket and saving Test cricket.

Jai Shah will focus on these tasks

  1. Jay Shah, who made the record of being the youngest chairman of the ICC at the age of just 35, thanked the ICC board members for his selection. Along with this, Shah mentioned the tasks on which he will focus the most. However, Shah did not mention the Champions Trophy to be held next year, but at present his first focus will be on it. The tournament is to be held in Pakistan in February-March 2025 but Team India will not go to Pakistan for this. In such a situation, his priority will be to conduct the tournament successfully on a hybrid model.
  2. The biggest challenge before Shah will be to give a new energy to Test cricket and to increase the enthusiasm of cricketers and fans towards it in the era of popularity of T20 cricket.
Shah also mentioned this in his statement. He said that T20 cricket is definitely exciting but at the same time it is equally important to give priority to Test cricket because it is the foundation of this game. Shah said that his goal will be to keep the enthusiasm for this format alive among cricketers.
  3. Apart from this, Shah also talked about promoting cricket for women and differently abled people.
Citing the mission of ICC in this regard, he said that more resources and attention is needed for these sections so that they not only come into the eyes of the people but also progress and expand.
  4. It is almost certain that Shah will remain the ICC chairman for at least two terms. That is, he will hold this post till December 2028. In such a situation, cricket will also make a comeback in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028 during his tenure. Shah said that it is his good fortune that his tenure is coming at a time when cricket will make a comeback in the Olympics, which is a milestone.
