England vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test: England's legendary batsman Joe Root will have a chance to make some special records in the second Test match against Sri Lanka at Lord's Cricket Ground on Thursday (August 29).

If Root scores 48 runs in this match, he will surpass Chris Gayle to reach the 13th position in the list of players scoring the most international runs.

Root has scored 19546 runs in 453 innings of 347 matches so far in all three formats combined. Gayle has scored 19593 runs in 551 innings of 483 matches.

Shivnarine can overtake Chanderpaul

If Root scores a half-century in this match, he will surpass Shivnarine Chanderpaul in terms of scoring the most fifty-plus scores in Test cricket.

Currently, Chanderpaul and Root are jointly at the fifth position, both have scored 96-96 fifty-plus scores in this format. Only Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid are ahead of him in this list now.

It is worth noting that Root batted brilliantly in the first Test match played against Sri Lanka in Manchester. He scored an unbeaten half-century in the second innings and 42 runs in the first innings for England, who won while chasing the target of 205 runs set by Sri Lanka.

England has announced its playing eleven for this match. Ollie Stone has returned in place of Mark Wood, who was out of the entire series due to injury. Stone played his last Test match in 2021.
