In the world of hockey, Major Dhyanchand is known as 'Jadugar'. In his career, he gave the Indian hockey team such fame which no one could have imagined. Opponents used to look helpless in front of Dhyanchand's hockey stick and the audience used to be surprised. He created such a legacy with his performance which the world salutes even today. Before independence, he made India dominate this game, which continued for years. India won gold medals in the Olympics of 1928, 1932 and 1936 consecutively. India won all these matches one-sidedly. There was one match in which Dhyanchand along with his brother created havoc.

On 29 August, i.e. Dhyanchand's birthday, we are going to tell you the story of this amazing and historical match, which surprised everyone.

America was defeated 24-1

Dhyan Chand started his hockey career while serving in the British Army between 1922 and 1926. Born in Lucknow in 1905, Dhyan Chand scored more than 1000 goals in his career. He won many matches for India but the match against America in the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics is still fresh in people's minds.

In this match, the Indian team put America to shame. The team won the final match by 24-1.

In the history of international hockey, no team has been able to do this again. This record is still in India's name. Major Dhyanchand and his brother Roop Singh had an important contribution in this historic victory.

Dhyanchand scored 8 goals

America had not yet recovered from the economic recession of 1929 when both the brothers gave them another 'shock'. Before playing the gold medal match with America, India played against Japan. In this match, the team won 11-1, in which Dhyan Chand scored 4 goals. His brother Roop Singh and Gurmeet Singh Kullar scored a hat-trick.

Seeing this performance, the Japanese audience could not believe it.

They had not even imagined such a humiliating defeat. After this came the turn of America and Dhyanchand along with his brother Roop Singh once again showed the 'magic' of his stick and both of them scored 18 goals. While Dhyanchand scored 8 goals, his brother Roop Singh scored 10 goals and Gurmeet Singh Kullar managed to score 5 goals.

The team reached Los Angeles after raising money

The 1932 Olympics was historic in many ways. Only India, America and Japan participated in it. The Indian Hockey Federation had made Lal Singh Bukhari the captain.

Dhyan Chand was going to play Olympics for the second time, while his brother Roop Singh was also selected for the Olympics for the first time. The federation had selected the team, but reaching America was a big problem for them. The team did not have money to go there. For this, they had to raise money themselves.

The federation took help from some kings and took some money as loan from the governors of the states. Still the money was not enough. Despite this, the Indian team left for America by ship with the help of loan and some kings.

The team raised money for itself through exhibition matches at the port where the ship stopped. In this way, the Indian team reached Los Angeles after a long journey of 42 days.
