New Zealand appointed former legend as bowling coach of its national team

Delhi: Jacob Oram has been appointed as the bowling coach of the New Zealand men's team. Oram is a former Kiwi all-rounder and has come into the coaching role after Shane Jurgensen resigned after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 played in India. He served as the Blackcaps' bowling consultant during the Test tour of Bangladesh last year, the T20I series against Australia and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He will take up the role on October 7.

In a statement released by New Zealand Cricket (NZC), Jacob Oram said, “I am really excited to have the opportunity to rejoin the Blackcaps. It is truly an honor to be reunited with a team that means so much to me and has been a big part of my life.”

He described his return to the team as an important part of his life. Oram further said, “The opportunities I have received recently have helped me understand the direction this team is heading in and I am excited to continue this work in the coming seasons. A new wave of talent is coming in the Blackcaps bowling and I hope I can share my knowledge and experience with them, so that they can prepare in the best way for the challenges of international cricket.”

Who is Jacob Oram?

Oram's coaching career began with the New Zealand A team in 2014 and he later served as bowling coach for the country's women's team from 2018. He was appointed head coach of Central Hinds last summer and led the team to the final of the Super Smash. He also served as assistant coach in the Abu Dhabi T10 and bowling coach of MI Cape Town in the SA20.

Jacob Oram has been an important part of the New Zealand cricket team as an all-rounder who bats left-handed and plays the role of a right-arm fast bowler. He has taken 60 wickets, 173 wickets and 19 wickets in Tests, ODIs and T20Is respectively.
