If there is no challenge in a sport, then what is the fun in playing and winning it? Challenges encourage Indian para-athlete Nishad Kumar to do better in his sport. Nishad is going to celebrate his 25th birthday in October this year. But, before that, what he has achieved with his high spirits in the Paris Paralympics is amazing, unmatched and different from all others. This is because he is the youngest para athlete of the country to achieve that success. All this has happened 19 years after that painful incident, when Nishad's hand got cut after getting stuck in a lawn mower.

He lost his hands at the age of 6, but became passionate about playing after seeing his mother

Born in 1999, Nishad Kumar lost his right hand in an accident involving a lawn mower when he was just 6 years old. But, Nishad did not let that accident become his weakness. His love for sports was due to his mother. Nishad's mother has been a volleyball and discus throw player at the state level. Inspired by his mother, he too decided to become a player and bring glory to India.

Nishad has come a long way playing since 2009

Then the farmer's son's journey to progress in sports began.

This series, which started in 2009, got its first big break on the international stage in 2019, when he won the bronze medal in the T47 high jump category of the World Para Athletics Championship. On the basis of the bronze medal won here, he qualified for the Tokyo Paralympics, where he won the silver medal with an Asian record. After this, Nishad Kumar won the gold medal in the Asian Para Games held in Hangzhou, China in 2022.

A smaller jump than Tokyo in Paris, yet won silver

Nishad, who jumped 2.06 meters in the Tokyo Paralympics, jumped only 2.04 meters in the Paris Paralympics, despite this he managed to win the silver medal.

With this, he has become the first Indian para-athlete to win medals in back to back Paralympics.

Himachal Pradesh's boy is the country's star today

Nishad is a resident of Baduan village in Una district of Himachal Pradesh. He studied at DAV College in Sector 10, Chandigarh. After this, he did further studies from Himachal Pradesh University. Nishad Kumar is helped by Olympic Gold Quest to give wings to his dreams.
