Whether it is a 100 meter or 200 meter race, winning a medal in Olympics and Paralympics is like a dream come true for any Indian. But, 23-year-old Preeti Pal has lived this dream for India. By turning this dream into reality, she has become the reason for the Indian flag to be hoisted twice in the Paris Paralympics within just 48 hours. Preeti Pal won bronze in the 100 meter race on 30 August and in the 200 meter race on 1 September, with which she became the first Indian woman to win two medals in the track and field event of the Paralympic Games.
The success story of Preeti Pal, who created history in the Paris Paralympics, is not as easy as it seems.
Preeti Pal is a resident of Hashampur village in Muzaffarnagar district of UP. She has been suffering from a disease called cerebral palsy since childhood. Her father Anil Kumar Pal runs a milk dairy. Preeti is the second among her 4 siblings.Father Anil Kumar Pal got his daughter treated from Meerut to Delhi but did not get much success. In such a situation, Preeti decided to make whatever she had in life her strength.
Preeti Pal's journey to success began with this intention. She took training from coach Gajendra Singh and slowly started climbing the ladder of success. Before raising the flag of India in Paris Paralympics, Preeti has also made her name in World Para Athletics Championship. She also won bronze medal in that competition held in Japan in 2024. And, now by winning 2 medals one after the other in Paris Paralympics, she has given India a double chance to rejoice with pride.
A milk seller's daughter from UP has now become the beloved of India.
As her father Anil Kumar Pal tells that people used to tell him that she is handicapped and there will be a lot of difficulty in getting the girl married. After her success in Paris, now the same people are telling him that the girl has done very well. She has increased the prestige of India in the whole world.
