Sumit Antil has once again managed to win the gold medal for India in the Paralympics. Sumit Antil created history by winning the gold medal for India in javelin at the Tokyo Paralympics and he managed to repeat his feat at the Paris Paralympics. Javelin star Sumit Antil also broke the Paralympic record this time. Sumit Antil's dominance was seen in the final of the F64 javelin throw competition.

Won gold medal by breaking Paralympic record

Sumit Antil broke the Paralympic record in the very first attempt. Sumit secured the gold medal position with an attempt of 69.11 meters.

After this, he improved the Paralympic record in the second attempt. This time he managed to throw the javelin 70.59 meters away. At the same time, defending champion Sumit Antil achieved a distance of 66.66 meters in his third attempt. After this, Sumit fouled in his fourth attempt and achieved a distance of 69.04 meters in the fifth attempt. Sumit finished with his last attempt of 66.57 meters.

An accident changed Sumit Antil's life

Sumit Antil was born on 6 July 1998 in a middle-class family in Khewda, Haryana. His father was a JWO officer in the Air Force, who passed away in 2004.

Sumit has been very hardworking since childhood. He was interested in wrestling since childhood. That's why he wanted to become a wrestler and was working hard for it since childhood. One day such an accident happened to him, which changed his life. His dream of becoming a wrestler was shattered. It was in 2015 when Sumit was returning home from tuition one day, his car met with an accident. Because his father was in the Indian Army, he was shifted to the Army Hospital. There the doctors had to amputate the part below Sumit's knee. After 53 days of rest, he was taken to the Artificial Limb Center in Pune.
There he was fitted with a prosthetic i.e. artificial leg.

After getting an artificial leg, Sumit gave up his dream of becoming a wrestler but kept doing normal workouts. However, he had given up wrestling after the accident. Then in July 2017, a friend of his village and para athlete Rajkumar told him about para athletics. Para athletics changed his life forever. Initially, he wanted to become a shot putter. He met Indian coach Virendra Dhankhar to get advice about this. He introduced Sumit to javelin coach Naval Singh. After discussing, Naval suggested javelin throw to Sumit.
