Along with infrastructural development, the newly introduced Bengal Pro T20 League has been a beacon of hope for many aspiring cricketers in Bengal.
A state that is the home of great Sourav Ganguly, Bengal has never been a force in Indian cricket. But in recent times, the Bengal cricket team has seen a number of players making inroads in the Indian team.
Mohammed Shami has been a longstanding servant of Indian cricket, while the likes of Shahbaz Ahmed, Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar have represented the Indian team in recent times.
Former India cricketer Pragyan Ojha believes the Bengal cricket will be further aided with the arrival of Bengal Pro T20 league. Ojha, who was part of the Harbour Diamond team in the Bengal T20 tournament, spoke exclusively with MyKhel recently.
"Bengal cricket has always been talented. They have always been top contenders in the Ranji Trophy. The likes of players Bengal have had over the years is for all of us to see and Bengal Pro T20 will further help it," Pragyan Ojha said.
The Indian cricketer also praises the process of CAB's Vision programme initiative and believes the likes of Manoj Tiwary, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, and others will play a key part in their development.
"They [Mukesh Kumar, Shahbaz Ahmed and others] are established players but I believe that the quality of Bengal Pro T20 and local leagues, along with the Vision programme is quite magnificent.
Manoj Tiwary is involved in the Vision programme, Laxmi Ratan Shukla is the coach and Bengal cricket will grow with their guidance and they will play a key part [in development].
As the new players influx into the Bengal team, the team will grow further. But the process of CAB and Bengal cricket is excellent," Pragyan Ojha concluded.
Although Bengal's cricket has enjoyed an upsurge, the elusive Ranji Trophy still remains out of their grasp. Despite reaching the Final multiple times in recent years, Bengal has failed to cross the final hurdle. With the upcoming season on the horizon, Bengal will have to step up as expectations rise.
