The history of India's participation in the Paralympic Games is 64 years old. India has been participating in it since 1960. But, what has happened in the year 2024 is a new history. What happened in Paris was not seen in any Paralympic Games before. India has broken the record of 64 years here. This record is not only of the number of medals won but more than that, it is also of the biggest success ever achieved in athletics. India has surprised the world this time. Showing that now it has achieved mastery in the track and field events.
In the Paris Paralympics, India has written a new story of its success in athletics.
It has done here in athletics what it had never done before, not only in this sport, but in any other sport in the history of Paralympic Games. For the first time in the Paralympic Games, the number of medals won by India in athletics has touched the double digits. This has never happened before. Neither in this sport nor in any other sport. And, the most important thing is that the Paris Paralympics have not ended yet. Meaning, the number of medals won in athletics can increase further.India has won a total of 10 medals in the first 6 days of the Paris Paralympics, which is a new history.

Let's find out.Preeti Pal won the first two medals in athletics for India at the Paris Paralympics. She won bronze in the women's 100m and 200m T35 events. Nishad Kumar won the third medal for India in athletics. He won silver in the men's high jump T47 event.
The fourth medal was won by Yogesh Kathuniya in the form of silver in the men's discus throw F56 event.The fifth medal came in the form of a gold medal, which was won by Sumit Antil in the men's javelin throw F64 event. The sixth medal was won by Deepti Jivanji in the women's 400 meter T20 event. The 7th medal in athletics came to India when Sharad Kumar won silver in the men's high jump T63 event. India got its 8th medal when Mariyappan Thangevelu won bronze in the same event. The 9th and 10th medals for India were won by Ajit Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar in the men's javelin throw F46 event.

Tokyo has been the most successful Paralympics for India so far, where it won 19 medals. But, by winning 20 medals in the first 6 days in Paris, it has given the best performance ever in the history of Paralympic Games. In the first 6 days of the game, India has won 3 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze medals in Paris Paralympics.
