Former Olympian Tahir Zaman has been appointed the head coach of the Pakistan hockey team ahead of the Asian Champions Trophy.

He will join the team in Hulunbuir city of China. The tournament will start on September 8. A PHF official said, 'Tahir Zaman will now look after the technical and strategy aspects while Zeeshan has been made the team manager for the tournament.'

A popular player of his time, Zaman has coached the national junior team in the past and also holds a master's degree in coaching from the FIH. Zaman was a member of the Pakistan team that won bronze medals at the 1992 Olympics, 1994 World Cup and Champions Trophy.

India-Pakistan will also clash

Apart from India-Pakistan teams, Korea, China, Japan and Malaysia will participate in the Asian Champions Trophy.

The 6-team Asian Champions Trophy (ACT) tournament will be played from 8 to 17 September. On the other hand, a match will be played between the teams of India and Pakistan on 14 September. There were reports of differences between Pakistan team captain Ammad Shakeel Butt and some players and assistant coaches - Zeeshan Ashraf and Usman.
