Fast forward to 2024, in the ongoing edition of the Kerala Cricket League, Thrissur Titans' fielders almost recreated Ajmal's famous dropped catch, albeit in a different way during a match against the Trivandrum Royals at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday in the KCL 2024.
The drama unfolded when a Thrissur Titans' bowler changed his pace by delivering a slow ball on a good length.
Meanwhile, the Trivandrum Royals' batter stepped forward to take a shot, but he completely misjudged it. The ball flew high into the air, heading towards the gap between extra cover and cover. As it soared, two Titans' fielders positioned themselves under the ball, with both having a good chance to take the catch.
In the split second before the ball landed, one fielder realized that the other had a better angle for the catch.
Unfortunately, the fielder who was supposed to take it ended up dropping a sitter after making an attempt, leaving the cricket fraternity stunned and amused. The moment instantly reminded fans of Saeed Ajmal's infamous dropped catch, with one major difference - the fielder here in this video clip at least tried to grab it, which provided a lighthearted moment for the spectators.
Regarding the game, Trivandrum Royals batted first and posted 127/7 in their quota of 20 overs. While the top and the middle order collapsed, Akhil MS provided stability down the batting order by scoring 36 off 29 balls including 1 four and 3 sixes. Thrissur Titans' bowler Midhun PK picked up two wickets, giving away 17 runs and also bowled a maiden over.
Thrissur Titans aced the run-chase in 13 overs, courtesy of quickfire batting efforts from Vishnu Vinod and Anand Sagar. Vishnu top-scored with an unbeaten 47* off 19 balls, laced with 6 sixes and a four whereas Sagar scored 41 off 23 balls including 3 fours and 4 sixes.
