The 26-year-old bowler, playing for East Delhi Riders, has impressed with his performance, snaring 15 wickets so far in the competition. In the IPL 2023, Simarjeet made a mark by dismissing top-tier batsmen like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, and Sanju Samson during CSK's match against Rajasthan Royals.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with PTI, Simarjeet highlighted Dhoni's influence on his bowling.
"MS Dhoni has helped me develop myself as a better T20 bowler. I don't think anyone knows more about T20 cricket than him," said the right-arm pacer. "He always simplifies things, advising us to play simple cricket. That's the best way to approach the game."
Simarjeet's ability to execute back-of-the-length deliveries has been a crucial weapon in his arsenal, and he credits Dhoni's mentorship for fine-tuning his skills.
The young pacer has been able to absorb critical lessons from Dhoni, not just on technical aspects but also on mental clarity and strategy.
As the domestic cricket season of 2024-25 looms, Simarjeet is excited about the opportunity to learn from senior Indian players who will return to the domestic circuit. "I just want to learn and improve. When senior India players come and play domestic cricket, we get to learn a lot from them," Simarjeet added.
The upcoming IPL mega auction has also caught Simarjeet's attention, but his focus remains clear: improving his game.
"I just want to play cricket. My goal is to contribute wherever I'm selected and grow as a cricketer with whichever franchise picks me," he emphasized. "For me, it's about growth and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way."
As one of the senior players for East Delhi Riders, Simarjeet takes his role in mentoring young talent seriously. He actively helps guide younger players in developing strategies for every game, hoping that his guidance can help local players earn their first state call-up. "It's a great platform for local players to showcase their talent. Youngsters come to me for advice, and I believe this is a very good opportunity for them to impress and get noticed," he signed off.
Simarjeet Singh's commitment to constant growth, combined with Dhoni's mentorship, makes him one of the promising players to watch out for in the upcoming cricket season.
His leadership at the domestic level and his hunger to improve signal a bright future for the pacer in Indian cricket.
