Barely a month after unrest in Bangladesh, India is set to host the neighbouring country for a Test and T20I series, beginning September 19. The return of Rishabh Pant to India's squad has generated much excitement, but not everyone is pleased with the decision to host Bangladesh amid ongoing violence against Hindus in the neighbouring country.
The Hindu Mahasabha has threatened protests, with reports suggesting a possible last-minute venue change.
The T20I is scheduled to be played at the Madhavrao Scindia International Cricket Stadium in Gwalior on October 6. Mahasabha Vice President Dr Jaiveer Bharadwaj has stated that the right-wing group will oppose the match, citing the destruction of Hindu temples and violence against Hindus in Bangladesh. He has warned that the Mahasabha activists might attempt to damage the venue and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and cancel the match to prevent unrest. On social media, the hashtag #BoycottBangladeshCricket is trending, with many netizens urging the BCCI to cancel Bangladesh's tour of India. Last month, thousands of Hindus protested in Dhaka and Chattogram, demanding protection.
