The first day of the test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was washed out due to the ground being wet. There was not a single drop of rain on Monday but despite this not a single ball could be bowled. The Afghanistan team and officials seemed unhappy with the preparations of the Greater Noida stadium and the ACB official even said that he would never want to come back to this ground. The ACB official, upset with the poor drainage, wet outfield and pathetic facilities at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, said that there is a lot of mess here, the players are unhappy with the facilities here.
He said that he would never come back here.Usually only a part of the ground gets wet after rain, but there were wet patches at many places on the ground of Greater Noida Stadium. According to the report, the umpires inspected the ground 6 times throughout the day. Many New Zealand players including captain Tim Southee, all-rounder Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra also came to inspect the ground. But mid-on and mid-wicket seemed to be a matter of concern while there were many patches inside the 30-yard circle as well.
The use of super soppers was also delayed in the Greater Noida stadium. According to reports, they started being used after 1 pm. Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott seemed quite unhappy with the entire system. The practice of both the teams was also affected by this. The ground staff used table fans to dry the ground for Afghanistan's training session. Now the toss time has been fixed at 9 am from Tuesday and there will be 98 overs in the remaining four days which will start at 9.30 am instead of 10 am.
There are no matches under BCCI in Greater Noida Stadium.
The last Duleep Trophy match was held on this ground in 2016. However, BCCI banned it in September 2017 due to match fixing during corporate matches. Since then, no match related to BCCI has been organized here. The last Duleep Trophy match was held on this ground in 2016.
