Like every time, once again Pakistan cricket has come in the headlines for the wrong reasons. First the humiliating defeat in the T20 World Cup and then the Test series against Bangladesh had brought disgrace to the Pakistani team, now a decision of the Pakistan Cricket Board has shocked everyone. PCB has shut down its own new tournament within just one day.
The Pakistani board is currently focusing its full attention on the new tournament Champions One Day Cup, but before that the board had started a tournament for under-19 players, which has now been suspended within a day.A PTI report states that the Pakistan Cricket Board issued a small press release on Wednesday, September 11, announcing that the National Junior Championship is being cancelled. This 18-team tournament started a day earlier, i.e. on Tuesday, September 10. Now on Wednesday, the PCB decided to stop it.
While announcing this decision, the PCB only said that it is being suspended due to unavoidable circumstances. The matches of this three-day tournament were to be played in many different venues and the Pakistani board had already spent millions of rupees to prepare 18 teams. Only the first day of the tournament could be played when the board informed all the teams and officials about stopping the tournament midway. The report quoted sources in the Pakistani board as saying that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi had received many complaints related to team selection, which included cases of overage players being selected and fake documents.
Now no information has been given about when this tournament will start again. Not only this tournament, but the PCB has also postponed the Under-19 Women's Tournament, which was to start from September 16. Now the entire focus of the Pakistani board is on the 5-team ODI Champions Cup, in which all the big and young cricketers of the country including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan are participating. It will start from Thursday, September 12. The Pakistani board is also constantly under question regarding this tournament, in which not only legendary players but also many former legendary captains are participating as mentors, who are being given a hefty salary.
