The Champions Trophy is to be held in Pakistan in February and March next year. This is the first ICC tournament to be held in Pakistan after the 1996 World Cup, for which the Pakistan Cricket Board is busy preparing. To take stock of these preparations, an ICC team will go to Pakistan, which will take information about the situation from the PCB. The agenda of this team is not yet completely clear but it is expected to include the schedule of the tournament, which it will discuss with the Pakistani board. The PCB had released the draft schedule but it has not yet got the approval of the ICC.
In such a situation, there is a buzz that the tournament will not be approved after Jay Shah becomes the ICC President.According to a PTI report, the ICC team may discuss the schedule with the PCB during this visit. The Pakistani board had sent a possible schedule to all the cricket boards participating in the tournament including the ICC several weeks ago. According to this schedule, the tournament will start from February 19 and the final will be played on March 9. Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi have been selected as venues for the tournament.
However, a final decision has not been taken on this schedule yet and a big reason for this is India. In the report, citing ICC sources, it has been told that all the member cricket boards have seen the schedule but some work is still needed on it, due to which a final decision has not been taken. According to this schedule of PCB, Team India will come to Pakistan for this tournament and the team's base will be in Lahore, where all its league matches and future matches will also be held. Pakistan has definitely put forward this proposal from its side, but whether this will happen or not will depend on the Indian government whether it allows Team India to go to Pakistan or not.
Along with this, questions have also started arising whether the current BCCI secretary Jay Shah will put the final seal on the tournament? Actually, Shah will take over as the new chairman of the ICC from December 1. In such a situation, sources believe that the official announcement of the tournament schedule may take more time. It is also being claimed that just like the schedule of the ODI World Cup was released late last year, the schedule of the Champions Trophy can also be released just a few weeks before the tournament begins.
