The date for the Irani Trophy 2024 match - October 1 to October 5 remains the same.
"The Irani Cup, which was supposed to be hosted by Mumbai, has been shifted to Lucknow," a top source from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) told ETV Bharat on Tuesday.
The source informed that the prolonged monsoon is one of the reasons for shifting the venue from Mumbai.
He added that the groundsmen would race against the time to prepare the wicket.
The reports come amid the embarrassing situation at the Greater Noida Sports Complex Ground on the outskirts of New Delhi. The historic one off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand has seen the first three days of the play being called off. As on Wednesday, September 11 (Day 3), even the toss hasn't been conducted, and chances of play on the final two days are also really slim.
The Irani Cup is always played between the Ranji Trophy Champions and the Rest of India (ROI).
Reigning Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai would be competing against the Rest of India squad which is expected to be full of star cricketers including India internationals.
Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy title for the record 42nd time in March this year. Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane led the Mumbai side, and the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Musheer Khan, Shardul Thakur, Tushar Deshpande and retired Dhawal Kulkarni forged forces to beat Vidarbha by 169 runs at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rest of India won the first Irani Cup trophy in 1959-60.
Overall, they have won 30 titles, and are followed by Mumbai (14), and Karnataka (6).
