The England cricket team won the Test series against Sri Lanka 2-1. The team did face defeat in the last match of the series but it still managed to win the series. However, the fast bowler who was dropped by the team in the last match has now created a stir in the County Championship. This is right-handed pacer Matthew Potts, who did not get a chance in the playing eleven for the third Test. Now Potts created a stir by single-handedly taking 9 out of 10 wickets in a single innings of the match played between Durham and Lancashire and gave the team a spectacular victory.

Potts caused a stir

On the last day of this match played at Chester-le-Street, Durham defeated Lancashire by a huge margin of an innings and 63 runs.

While the record partnership of 425 runs between David Bedingham and Colin Ackerman on the second and third days played a significant role in this victory, on the basis of which the team scored 573 runs in the first innings, on the last day i.e. Thursday 12 September, Matthew Potts took the remaining 6 wickets and gave the team a memorable victory.

On the third day of the match, Lancashire lost 4 wickets for 155 runs, out of which 3 wickets came in the bag of Potts.

On the last day of the match on Thursday, Durham needed 6 wickets and Potts accomplished this task with his speed and sharpness. Potts did not take much time to get the remaining 6 wickets and Lancashire's innings was reduced to just 282 runs. Potts took 9 wickets for 68 runs in 24.2 overs, while only one wicket was taken by Callum Parkinson on the third day itself. On the last day, Potts also missed a hattrick in his deadly spell, but still he compensated for it by taking 3 wickets in one over.

Alarm bells for Pakistan

This is the best performance of this 25-year-old bowler in his first class career. He also took 3 wickets in the first innings, thus he took a total of 12 wickets in the match.

Potts recently played 2 Test matches against Sri Lanka, in which he took only 5 wickets. However, during this time many catches were also missed in his bowling. Then in the third Test held at the Oval, he was dropped and 6 feet 7 inches new pacer Josh Hull was given a chance. Sri Lanka won this match. However, Potts has got a place in England's squad for the 3 Test match series on the Pakistan tour and considering the current condition of the Pakistani team, this is not good news for Shan Masood's team.
