Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal had a stellar outing in the County Championship Division 2 in England, where he took nine wickets in a first-class match against Derbyshire at Northampton. After being bowled out for 219 in the first innings, Chahal returned with figures of five for 45 in 16.3 overs in the first innings.
He then picked up three more wickets to take out the tail-enders as Derbyshire were bowled out for just 165. Chahal then picked up four wickets in the second innings to take a total of nine wickets across both innings.
Fellow players call him magician
Northamptonshire spinner Rob Keogh said the county side calls Yuzvendra Chahal a 'magician', heaping praise on the Indian spinner in their first win of the County Championship season. Chahal, who took 9 for 99 with his career-best first-class figures, played a key role in Northants' 133-run win over Derbyshire at the County Ground in Northants on Wednesday, September 11.
Completed 100 first-class wickets
Chahal also completed 100 first-class wickets during the match. Chahal, a white-ball specialist for India and IPL's all-time leading wicket-taker, made his first-class debut in 2009. The leg-spinner has played just 36 first-class cricket matches in 15 years. Northantsshire batted first and managed just 218 runs. Derbyshire looked in a position to take a first-innings lead at 150 for 4 on the second day.
However, Chahal and Kee Ough devastated the middle-order and lower middle-order and Derbyshire lost their last six wickets for just 15 runs.
