Kolkata Knight riders had a magnificent season in the IPL 2024 as they made their way to win the title for the third time in history and first time in 10 years.
Now they hope to recreate this feat as IPL 2025 starts in a few months. However, there will be big holes to fill, especially with Gautam Gambhir departing from the franchise. There are also rumours regarding shift in captaincy as the mega auctions for IPL 2025 comes close. Gambhir was known as game changer for KKR, as he left his role as mentor of LSG and join KKR as their mentor.
Hence, him leaving KKR will mean they have a big hole to fill. There have been reports that KKR is currently exploring their options. However, the obvious alternative comes out to be Ricky Ponting, who has left as head coach of Delhi Capitals earlier this year. Kumar Sangakkara and Jacques Kallis are reportedly supposed to be the other options. According to reports, MI camp was not at happy place during the IPL 2024. Several players were dissatisfied in playing under Hardik Pandya, one of the names being Suryakumar Yadav. There have been thoughts of KKR offering Suryakumar a chance to come back to the franchise and even offer him the captaincy. After Gautam Gambhir, Shreyas Iyer became the second captain in history to win the IPL title for KKR.
It would hence be a surprise if the franchise lets him off. Though there are reports about if Suryakumar returns, Iyer might get traded to MI as an exchange.
