India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra missed out on the Diamond League Trophy. In the final held in Brussels, Neeraj came close to the title by a small but decisive margin of just 1 centimeter. Neeraj's tough rival Anderson Peters of Grenada won the javelin throw title with a throw of 87.87 meters. Neeraj threw 87.86 meters and finished second. In this way, Neeraj's dream of winning this title for the second time was shattered. Also, this year the season of the legendary Indian athlete ended without any title. Neeraj had won the silver medal in the Paris Olympics only last month.
Last month, Neeraj secured second place in the Lausanne Diamond League. At that time, he had made his best throw of this season with 89.45 meters. However, Neeraj did not look in rhythm in that entire event and 5 out of 6 throws were his fouls (or no count). This time Neeraj did not do that and started strongly, showing his old attitude. Neeraj was at the bottom among the 7 contenders in the final. Anderson Peters came before him, who secured the top position with his first throw of 87.87 meters. Neeraj also responded well and secured second place with a throw of 86.82 meters in the first attempt.
From here on, the competition was between these two giants. In the third attempt, Neeraj improved his throw and achieved a distance of 87.86 meters, which was only 1 centimeter less than Peters. Due to this, he could not get the first position. Meanwhile, his second throw was 83.49 meters and the fourth throw was 82.04 meters. On the other hand, all four throws of Peters were more than 85 meters. Neeraj's fifth attempt was also not very good and he could throw the javelin only up to 83.30 meters.

This year was not very good for Neeraj in terms of results and he could not win any international title or meet.
He remained second in every event. Before the final this year, Neeraj had participated in only two meets and he remained second in both. He threw 88.36 meters in Doha and then 89.49 meters in Lausanne, which was his best throw this season. Between these two events, Neeraj also remained second in the Paris Olympics, where he won the silver medal with 89.45 meters, while Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the gold with 92.97 meters.Neeraj Chopra had earlier won the Diamond League title in 2022. He became the first Indian athlete to win this trophy. Then in the final held in Zurich, Neeraj secured first place with a throw of 88.44 meters and won the trophy. Last year Neeraj could not repeat this success and finished second. Then Jakub Vadleich of Czech Republic won the title.
