India will take on Bangladesh in the second and the final Test of the two-match series at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27. The hosts defeated the visiting side by 280 runs in the Chennai Test to go 1-0 up. Rohit Sharma’s team will need to win the upcoming contest to complete a series whitewash. However, the issues with the Kanpur stadium are hogging the limelight. A part of the venue is dangerous and might collapse, according to a report.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the Balcony C has been declared unfit by the PWD ahead of the game. There is a possibility of it coming down if 4800 fans watch the proceedings from the stand. Hence, the cricket association has sold 1700 tickets of Balcony C.

“The PWD has highlighted some issues and we have decided to sell only 1700 tickets for the stand. The repair work will be completed in a couple of days,” Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association CEO Ankit Chatterjee told the publication.a

The Indian Express revealed that six PWD engineers checked Balcony C and informed the cricket association that this part was in a need of repair as it wouldn’t be able to bear the weight of even fifty spectators if they start celebrating after Rishabh Pant hits a maximum.

“If Rishabh Pant hits a six and 50 fans start celebrating, a part of the stadium will collapse. It needs urgent repair,” the engineer said.

The previous international match held in Kanpur was a Test between India and New Zealand three years ago. The issue of bad lights had impacted that contest and the problem continues to persist.
