South Africa has won the first ODI played against Ireland in Abu Dhabi. With this he has taken a 1-0 lead in the ODI series. Earlier, the T20 series between the two teams was tied. In the first match of the ODI series, South Africa defeated Ireland by 139 runs. Two players who had made their international debut for South Africa two years ago played a big role in their victory. And, who did something against Ireland which he had never done before in his ODI career. We are talking about Ryan Rickleton and Tristan Stubbs, between whom there was a partnership of 152 runs in the first ODI against Ireland.
In the first ODI, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 271 runs after losing 9 wickets in 50 overs. South Africa did not get a better start in this match. His 3 wickets fell for only 39 runs. But, after that, the partnership made by Ryan Rickleton and Tristan Stubbs for the fourth wicket, brought the South African team back into the match.
Ryan and Stubbs added 152 runs in 155 balls for the fourth wicket. Ryan Rickleton scored 70 runs in 70 balls while Tristan Stubbs scored 79 runs in 85 balls.
Ryan Rickleton, who opened with 70 runs in this partnership, scored 91 runs facing a total of 102 balls in the match. The big thing about the innings of Ryan and Stubbs was that both of them scored half-centuries for the first time in their ODI career. In this respect, it can be said that he played such a big innings for the first time in ODI. Apart from scoring a half-century for South Africa for the first time in the same ODI, there are some similarities between Ryan and Stubbs.
Both of them made their international debut in the year 2022 and both are wicketkeeper batsmen. However, the responsibility of wicketkeeping against Ireland was with Ryan Rickleton. Now, thanks to the strong innings and great partnership of Ryan and Stubbs, South Africa had to chase the target of 272 runs that Ireland had set. But the Irish team failed to do so. Even 50 overs were not played. His innings was reduced to 132 runs in just 31.5 overs. That is, Ireland lost the first ODI of the series by a margin more than the runs it scored.
