India defeated South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 to lift the trophy for the second time, having won the inaugural edition in 2007. Virat Kohli was the Player of the Match in the mega clash, while Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for taking 15 wickets. Rohit Sharma finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer, with his best knocks coming against Australia and England.

Hardik Pandya was magnificent with the bat and ball for the team.  However, former India National Cricket Team player Harbhajan Singh felt that without Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel, the sub-continent squad wouldn’t have been able to win the T20 World Cup.

“All the players performed well, but we don’t know much about Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel. They were outstanding in the tournament and were sensational in the final. Without these two, India wouldn’t have won the T20 World Cup. Arshdeep and Axar were just brilliant,” he said on Sports Yaari.

Axar scored 47 off 31 balls in the final after being promoted in the batting order. He hit 4 sixes and 1 four. In the bowling department, he dismissed dangerous Tristan Stubbs.

On the other hand, Arshdeep took two wickets and conceded just 20 runs from his four overs. He sent back Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram.

Overall, Patel scored 92 runs in 8 matches. He also amassed 9 wickets at an average of 19.22 and an economy rate of 7.86.

Arshdeep was the joint highest wicket-taker, along with Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi. In 8 matches, the left-arm Indian pacer picked up 17 wickets at an average of 12.64 and an economy of 7.16.
