Aakash Chopra feels Gujarat Titans will not retain Mohammed Shami ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 due to his injury issues. He said that the IPL 2022 champions will retain three capped players.

In IPL 2023, Shami picked up 28 wickets and was the Purple Cap winner. However, he didn’t play in the 17th season of the tournament due to an ankle injury he sustained during the ODI World Cup in 2023.

“You will see Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan playing for the franchise in IPL 2025. I think Sai Sudharsan is the third player they should retain. If he goes in the auction, he will get  8 to 10 crore for sure. GT will be able to retain him for INR 11 crore,” he said.

“After that, they don’t have any player who deserves to earn INR 18 crore. Kane Williamson, Mohammed Shami, David Miller, or any other name is not worth that amount. Shami might be heading out of the team because of his injury issues,” he added.

Aakash further said that Gujarat will retain Rahul Tewatia and Mohit Sharma as uncapped players.

“They can pick two uncapped players for INR 4 crore each. One will be Rahul Tewatia, and the other will be Mohit Sharma. GT can go with these give and use Right to Match card for David Miller.”

Aakash added that the Titans can also use the RTM card for Noor Ahmad or Mohammed Shami in addition to David Miller.
