Former Australia wicket-keeper Brad Haddin said that India are capable of repeating their Kanpur exploits in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 Down Under. He further noted that it was terrific to watch India go for a victory in the second Test against Bangladesh.
Two days were lost due to rain, but India managed to dismiss Bangladesh after lunch on Day 4 for 233. India then scored 285/9d in 34.4 overs and took Bangladesh’s two wickets in the second innings at stumps. The two teams returned on the fifth day, and India completed the task of 95 runs with more than 40 overs left in the contest.
“India can repeat the same kind of performance in Australia. The worst result would have been a draw for the hosts. There was no way India would have ended as a losing side. Rohit Sharma had nothing to lose. It was good to watch. It was a wonderful way to win a Test match.”
India have won the previous two Test series in Australia and will be eyeing a hat-trick.
Haddin lauded Rohit Sharma and the support staff for going for a win when a draw was looming.
“The Indian players gave themselves a chance to win the match. The players were not bothered about their runs. It was about finding time to dismiss Bangladesh twice. Hats off to Rohit Sharma and the support staff. Rohit always wants to win, and I love their style of cricket.
“No one would have said anything had that game ended in a draw. The mindset of Rohit Sharma is to find ways to get a result. Teams are scared of scoring 10 runs in an over in T20 cricket.”
