The Board of Control for Cricket in India has taken a big decision. BCCI has elected the new head of Anti Corruption Unit (ACU). This important responsibility in Indian cricket will now be handled by a retired IPS officer, who has also been the head of Anti-Terrorism Organization (NIA) for four years. BCCI has chosen retired IPS officer Sharad Kumar as the new head of Anti Corruption Unit (ACU).
Sharad Kumar, resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has been made the head of BCCI's Anti Corruption Unit for three years. A board source said that his name was approved in the BCCI's annual general meeting on September 29.
After assuming the new post, he will play an important role in solving corruption related issues in cricket which includes match fixing and betting scandals.Sharad Kumar is a 1979 batch IPL officer of Haryana cadre and was the head of the counter-terrorism organization from 2013 to 2017. After his stay in NIA, Kumar was appointed Vigilance Commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission where he remained from June 2018 to April 2020. While serving as NIA Director General, Kumar played an important role in many major investigations and operations.
During his tenure, the NIA investigated several terrorist attacks in India, including the terrorist attack on Pathankot airbase by the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed. Kumar played an important role in enhancing the capabilities and infrastructure of NIA.Let us tell you, Sharad Kumar will replace KK Mishra, a former IPS officer of Haryana cadre. KK Mishra was made the head of BCCI's anti-corruption unit last year. But he could not complete his tenure.
