Prithvi Shaw, who was caught in the slip after scoring just four runs in the first innings, made a strong comeback in the second innings of the Irani Cup. Opening the second innings with Mumbai leading by 121 runs, Shaw smashed a half-century in just 37 balls. The 24-year-old batsman batted aggressively and hit eight fours. Three of these fours came on three consecutive balls of Mukesh Kumar in the fifth over.

Rahane, Iyer and Hardik Tamore, all three were out on single-digit scores, due to which the team had to face a difficult situation. He scored runs at a strike rate of 135.1 till his half-century, but after that he scored only 26 runs in 68 balls. Shaw played an innings of 76 runs in 105 balls and was finally bowled by Saransh Jain. By this time Mumbai's lead had reached 250 runs and the team had four wickets left in its hands.
