The IPL governing council last week permitted each of the 10 IPL teams to make a maximum of six retentions, including the right-to-match (RTM) cards. A maximum of five capped players and not more than two uncapped players can be retained by a team. While sharing his views on social media platform X, a verified user by the name of Vignesh commented on Ashwin's post: 'IPL retention rule is a complete Joke.. With 5 retentions and 1 RTM what's the purpose of Mega Auction?? Every team will retain the core team and there will be no big changes in the team's squad.' Ashwin, who has played 211 IPL matches for five teams in 15 seasons, believes that the team won't have a easy time to retain even five of the six permissible players. 'It's not that straight forward, don't think many teams will be able to retain 5,' Ashwin responded to Vignesh's comments.
