Pakistan are facing many problems in international cricket. For the first time in Test cricket, they lost to Bangladesh by 0-2 at home. In the last two ICC tournaments, the team failed to make it to the semis.

In the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Men in Green were eliminated from the group stage after losing to the USA and India National Cricket Team.

All is not well between the players. The squad is divided into several groups, with senior players Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan at loggerheads.

Babar recently stepped down from the white-ball captaincy for the second time. Shaheen Afridi, who was given the captaincy in T20Is after the 2023 World Cup, lasted one series. Shan Masood is the Test captain, and the team hasn’t won a single Test under his leadership. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reacted to Pakistan’s situation.

‘I feel sorry for Pakistan cricket as it was once a great team,” R Ashwin said.

“The whole musical chairs situation is beyond my understanding. Babar resigned after the 2023 World Cup. They gave T20I captaincy to Shaheen and Test leadership to Shan  Masood. But Babar was brought back, and Shaheen was removed. Pakistan haven’t won a Test for a long time. I think it has been 1000 days,” he added.

Ashwin said Pakistan cricket is surrounded by unpredictability. “The players are not sure whether they should think about the team or their own performances. The dressing room is unstable.”

Pakistan will now take on England in three Test matches.
