The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-man squad for the three Test matches against New Zealand on Friday, October 11. The first Test will be played from October 17 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has retained the same team from the recent two-match Test series win over Bangladesh.
Jasprit Bumrah is the vice captain of the Test team courtesy of his magnificent performances in five-day format for a long time.
Bumrah recently became the number one bowler in the ICC Test bowling rankings dethroning Ravichandran Ashwin from the top spot. Jasprit finished as the joint highest wicket taker in the Bangladesh series with 11 wickets from two matches at an average of 12.81.
Ever since his comeback to India National Cricket Team in August 2023 after a back surgery, the speedster has been dealing in wickets across formats.
In 8 Tests, he has amassed 42 wickets at an average of 14.69. The 30-year-old has picked up 170 wickets in 38 Tests at an average of 20.18.
Bumrah also captained India in the fifth and final Test against England in July 2022.
