Former England captain Nasser Hussain said the pressure is mounting on Babar Azam because of his failures in Test cricket. He commented after Babar’s below-par performers against England in Multan Test. He amassed 35 runs across the two innings and Pakistan lost the first Test by an innings and 47 runs.
The right-handed batter hasn’t recorded a fifty in 18 consecutive Test innings over nine Test matches for the national team. Pakistan have lost six consecutive red-ball games with four at home.
“Babar Azam is Pakistan’s best batter but he is out of form. He hasn’t scored a half-century in nine Tests. He has gone through a lot in the recent times. If you are Babar Azam in this part of the world, the pressure builds when you don’t score in two games. However, he is battling poor form since nine games. The pressure is on him,” Nasser Hussain said on SKY Sports
Hussain also mentioned that Pakistan don’t have world class spinners.
“Pakistan don’t have good spinners. The land of Abdul Qadir, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmed hasn’t seen a match-winning spinner in the recent times. They once produced great mystery spinners,” he said.
The former captain also highlighted the lack of pace among Pakistan fast bowlers.
“Their three fast bowlers are not quick. That is proving costly for them. Your batters failed in the second innings and you don’t know what pitch to prepare for your bowlers.”
