Australia captain Pat Cummins has reacted to the new rule imposed by the BCCI on overseas players. According to the new regulations, if overseas players pull out of the league after being bought by franchises, they will be banned for two years. Only players with medical and fitness issues will be allowed to skip the tournament.
Cummins said the rule wouldn’t have impacted him had it been in place in the past.
Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, Cummins said that he has never pulled out of the IPL following the auction. However, he is not sure if he will play in the IPL in the near future as Test cricket and World Cups are more important to him.
“The rules have changed, but I don’t know whether that would have impacted me in the past. I have never pulled out after being bought. However, there is one more factor to be considered regarding the IPL. Test cricket is my number one priority, and the World Cups are right up there. I think you need to work out what makes sense around that.”
Pat was SRH’s captain in IPL 2024, and the franchise made it to the finals but lost to KKR.
The 31-year-old is ready to lead Australia in Tests and ODIs until 2027.
“I can lead for a bit long. It is good to have some wonderful people around, but that might change as younger guys will come into the team in the next few years.
“I am not going to be around forever, but 2027 is the goal. I wouldn’t say it is imminent that I am going to step away, but 2027 is the big question, but it is a long way away.”
He will captain Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
