Former Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal said the current Test side is worse than a club team. He commented after Men in Green’s defeat to England in the first Test in Multan. The home team has lost six consecutive Tests under Shan Masood’s captaincy.
Pakistan scored 556 in the first innings but the bowlers conceded 823 runs.
The batters failed in the second innings and the team was bowled for 220.
“The world is amazed by the way Pakistan lost against England. Pakistan team is playing like a local side. Even the clubs don’t perform like this. We can win against small teams but we can’t even compete against big teams. The whole world is laughing at the current Pakistan team,” Kamran Akmal ssid.
Pakistan’s 556 is the highest team total in an innings defeat in the longest format of the game and the joint-third highest score in a loss while batting first in a Test match.
Pakistan haven’t won a home Test match in more than three years. The last home victory came against South Africa in February 2021. Since then, England, Australia and Bangladesh won the Test series against Pakistan. The series against New Zealand ended in a draw.
Kamran Akmal accused the Pakistan players of playing for themselves rather than for the country. He urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to investigate their performances and punish the culprits.
“Pakistan players are selfish. They are playing for personal records and then they think about the team. The Pakistan captain should be asked about the players who are playing for the records and after investigation, such players should be removed from the team. The whole world wants to play against us to script new records.”
