Pakistan’s defeat against England has angered the legendary cricketers of the sub-continent nation. The Men in Green are the first team in history to lose a Test by an innings despite scoring more than 500 runs in the first innings. After amassing 556, Pakistan allowed England to post 823/7. England then dismissed the hosts for just 220 and registered a win by an innings and 47 runs.
The defeat has left fans and former players disappointed. Former speedster Shoaib Akhtar said that Pakistan cricket has been declining since a long time.
Akhtar mentioned that the current crop of players is not good and the dressing room is lacking quality.
“The quality in the Pakistan’s dressing room is on a rapid decline. The results have been disappointing. There is no harm in losing a game but the competition should be close. We aren’t good enough. England scored more than 800 runs and we were also defeated by Bangladesh,” Shoaib Akhtar said on PTV Sports.
“Fans want Pakistan to stop playing Test cricket. ICC must also be thinking whether teams should visit Pakistan for Test cricket or is there is a need to revoke the Test status. The situation is disheartening. This is going to hurt everyone associated with Pakistan cricket. I urged the Pakistan Cricket Board to solve this mess,” he added.
The former fast bowler also spoke about groupism in Pakistan cricket team.
“If the team management and captain are weak, there will be groups. If the captain is selfish, the groupism will start. If the coaches are afraid of the captain and skipper takes all the calls regarding selection matters, the team gets divided into groups. Pakistan are facing this problem since my playing days.”
