Pakistan may drop former captain and star batsman Babar Azam from its playing eleven in the second Test match against England to be held in Multan from Tuesday (October 15). 29 year old Babar has been struggling with poor form for quite some time. He has not been able to score a single half-century in the last 18 innings for Pakistan. In the first Test against England under the captaincy of Ollie Pope, Babar played innings of 30 and 5 runs.
According to the news of Cricinfo, “After the defeat by an innings in the first Test in Multan on Friday (October 10), in the new selection committee meeting held in Lahore, it was recommended to drop Babar from the team. The meeting was held for the second time in Multan on Saturday, which was attended by Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi along with five advisors appointed by the PCB on three-year contracts.
It is believed that in the meeting on Saturday, it was agreed to drop Babar from the team.
As per available information, the new selection panel includes Aaqib Javed, Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, former ICC umpire Aleem Dar, analyst Hasan Cheema and the captain and head coach of the format for which the team is being selected.
Apart from Babar, spinner Abrar Ahmed is also out of the second test against England. Let us tell you that due to illness, Abrar was admitted to the hospital in the middle of the first test match. It seems difficult for him to fully recover before the second Test match. In his place, Nauman Ali or Sajid Khan could get a chance in the team.
Pakistan is at the bottom of the points table of the World Test Championship and if it loses in the second Test against England, then along with losing the series, the team will also be out of the race for the final of the World Test Championship.
