India will play New Zealand in a three-match series starting on October 16 in Bengaluru. The hosts are fresh from a 2-0 win over Bangladesh in the longest format of the game.

BCCI retained the same squad that took on the Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team. The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have a chance to come out of their poor form in red-ball cricket, while Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are among the players to watch out for.

On the other hand, New Zealand lost to Sri Lanka 0-2 in their last Test assignment.

Ahead of the first Test, New Zealand coach Gary Stead hailed the Indian team for managing injury issues.

Stead pointed out that India have a big pool of top performers, and injuries don’t impact the side. “If some of their players are injured, it doesn’t impact them like other teams. They have replacements ready for the injured players. They have a big pool of performers. Their brand of cricket is tough to counter, and it makes it very difficult to play against them in India,” he said.

Jasprit Bumrah has been named vice-captain for the three upcoming matches against the Kiwis.
