There is quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding Rishabh Pant's future with Delhi Capitals, particularly with the GMR ownership favouring Axar Patel as a leader over Pant.
The franchise opting for Hemang Badani over Sourav Ganguly for a key role adds to the speculation of a shift in the team's direction. Pant's desire to bring in a big name like Yuvraj Singh, which was rejected, could also indicate differences in vision between him and the current management. If Pant goes out of Delhi, it could mean a big loss for the franchisee in terms of talent and impact. Pant has in fact already got the tag of being the most destructive batter in world cricket and if a team like the Delhi Capitals are making a change of guard along with forcing their own choice of support staff rather than listening to the top players' choices means all isn't well within the franchisee. The unique ownership structure of Delhi Capitals, where the control alternates between GMR and Parth Jindal every two years, complicates the situation. While Pant had a long discussion with Parth Jindal regarding his retention, GMR's preference for Axar suggests Pant's isn't their top choice of player either. The potential for Pant to enter the auction or even be traded later seems to be a growing possibility, especially if he feels he's no longer fitting well with the current management. It'll be interesting to see how these negotiations play out and if Pant does indeed seek a new IPL home. "He isn't 100 per cent and that means he could be opting for another team very soon. If a team Pant kind of a player goes to auction, it means he would the top draw," a source revealed.
