As the days of starting of Border-Gavaskar Trophy are getting closer, the excitement about it is also increasing. The biggest question is, who will be the faces who will be a part of this high-profile series? The answer to this big question can be found after the second test between India and New Zealand in Pune. Actually, there is news that the selectors can meet after the Pune Test and select the team. However, before that, the names of two such players have emerged who can become contenders for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
There is a report that all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy may get a place in the team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. According to the report of Indian Express, Indian selectors are looking for a fast bowling all-rounder for the tour of Australia. To fulfill this need of the team, Ajit Agarkar and Company can seal the name of Nitish Kumar Reddy. Nitish, who plays for SRH in IPL, has also recently played T20 series against Bangladesh. He has also been selected in the India A team for the Australia tour.
However, Nitish Kumar Reddy may face tough competition from Shardul Thakur in the race to be selected as a fast bowling all-rounder. If reports are to be believed, Shardul is also a strong contender for a place in the team in the role of pace all-rounder. 33-year-old Shardul played an important role in India's victory in the Gabba Test on the last Australia tour. Recently he has recovered from injury and is also performing well in domestic matches. Currently he is playing Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. In such a situation, even though Shardul may have been away from the Indian team since the South Africa tour last year, the selectors can consider his name in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
After Hardik Pandya distanced himself from red ball cricket, the Indian team is lacking a fast bowling all-rounder. Till now Shardul Thakur was seen in this role on foreign tours. But, this time for the Australia tour, the 33 year old experienced player may face tough competition from the 23 year old young Josh i.e. Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Team India is expected to leave for Australia tour on November 10. This time Australia tour will be special because for the first time since 1992, a 5 test match series is being played between the two teams. The Test series between India and Australia will start from November 22.
