The second test match between India and New Zealand is starting from October 24 in Pune. There are many questions before this test match, like- what will be the playing eleven? Will Gill play or not? If Gill plays, who will be out? If Gill does not play, what will be India's batting order? Amidst such questions, former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has raised the issue of injustice towards Virat Kohli. He said that if due to Gill not playing, Virat had to do the same thing again which he did in the last Test, then it would be a bit unfair to him.
Now the question is what is the point of injustice raised by Sanjay Manjrekar here? The intention of the former Indian opener is actually to draw attention towards the batting position of Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli is the number 4 player. He prefers to bat on this order in Tests. But, in the absence of Shubman Gill in the Bengaluru Test, he had to play at number 3.
In such a situation, the question arose whether Virat should bat at number 3 in Pune also in the absence of Gill? In response to this, Sanjay Manjrekar said that in his opinion this would be unfair to Virat Kohli. Manjrekar said that instead of playing Virat at number 3, the Indian team management should consider fielding KL Rahul at that order.
Virat Kohli, batting at number 3, scored 70 runs in both the innings in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand. In this, he could not even open his account in the first innings. While playing the inning of 70 runs in the second innings, Virat also had an excellent partnership with Sarfaraz.
The Indian team is 0-1 behind New Zealand in the 3-Test series. After the defeat in the Bengaluru Test, Team India is now eyeing to level the series in Pune. It is believed that the Pune test match will be played on a turning track.
