Harsha Bhogle reckoned that retaining former captain Virat Kohli was a 'no-brainer'. He highlighted that the star batter scored over 700 runs with a strike rate in excess of 150 in the previous season.
His next pick was 40-year-old Faf du Plessis, who has captained RCB in the last three seasons. Bhogle played down South Africa star's age factor, and talked about his impressive stats and current form.
"He is going across leagues around the world, he is still playing well, I think he is a good captain and has delivered pretty good results for RCB and as a batter alone last year he made 430 odds runs at 161 strike rate. You take that any day. A 400-plus batter striking at 150-plus, you take that any day," Harsha Bhogle said about Faf du Plessis, who recently led St Lucia Kings to title triumph in CPL 2024.
Further, Harsha Bhogle admitted that he is a Rajat Patidar fan ever since his 49-ball hundred against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Kolkata in IPL 2024. He suggested that RCB should find a place for the Madhya Pradesh batter, who scored 395 runs at a strike rate of 177.13 and an average of 30.38 in IPL 2024.
Pacer Mohammed Siraj (15 wickets in 14 matches in IPL 2024) was Harsha Bhogle's fourth pick for RCB to maintain their core team.
'Don't mind paying Yash Dayal a little bit more'
Harsha Bhogle also opined that RCB should mind spending more than Rs 4 crore for Yash Dayal. He reckoned that RCB can spend Rs 6-7 crore for the young pacer, who changed his fortunes at the franchise last year.
The 63-year-old had one more retention and auction plan for the popular franchise. As per that, RCB could just retain Kohli and Dayal, and then enter the auction with a plan to build a new team. However, Harsha Bhogle admitted that the second option was extremely risky.
