India suffered a new low as New Zealand scripted a 113-run win in the second Test match in Pune, which ended their 12-year unbeaten run at home. Earlier, New Zealand won the first Test by 8 wickets, their first win in India in 36 years.
According to a report in The Indian Express, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have joined their families in Mumbai. The rest of the Indian players players and coaching staff will depart together. The iconic Wankhede Stadium will host the final Test match on November 1. The players have been given a two-day break before they regroup for the upcoming contest.
The report further said that players have been told to attend the two mandatory practice sessions on October 30 and 31. There is no optional training, and the team management has set the rules in place, with players being told not to skip the sessions.
To avoid injuries, the senior players and fast bowlers were allowed to skip the nets if there were two back-to-back matches.
However, with India losing the first Test by 8 wickets and the second by 113 runs, the privilege of optional training has been taken away. India’s 18 consecutive Test series wins record at home has ended, and now even the qualification for the World Test Championship final is at stake.
Following the end of the series, India will play a five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia.
