Gary Kirsten is likely to resign as Pakistan’s white-ball coach. While there is no announcement from the Pakistan Cricket Board, he will not travel to Australia for the ODIs and T20Is.

According to Cricbuzz, Kirsten and the players have had many differences. He was also not happy after the PCB refused to entertain his request to appoint David Reid as a High-Performance coach. The officials gave up a couple of other options, but he refused.

The report further stated that the former South Africa player will not be heading to Australia and Zimbabwe, where Pakistan are set to compete in white-ball matches.

The squads for both tours were announced, with Mohammad Rizwan set to lead the Men in Green. With just four months remaining in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, PCB will have to announce a new coach immediately. Jason Gillespie, the Test head coach, is the front-runner. If he refuses, Aaqib Javed is another candidate. He is currently working as a national selector and played a crucial role in Pakistan’s 2-1 Test series win over England.

Kirsten took over Pakistan’s white-ball team before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after parting ways with Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.

However, he failed to bring about change as Pakistan lost the bilateral matches and were also eliminated from the group stage in the ICC event.
