Pakistan Cricket Board is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons. Gary Kirsten has resigned from the men’s white-ball head coach position after just six months. Pakistan were enjoying a 2-1 series win over England at home before Kirsten decided to drop a bombshell and parted ways.

The apex body of Pakistan cricket has accepted the resignation. The 56-year-old South African, who was Team India’s head coach during the successful 2011 World Cup campaign, was appointed by the PCB before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, the Men in Green were eliminated from the group stage of the tournament.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has blasted PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi and said that Kirsten paid the price for raising his voice against the system.

“Mohsin Naqvi has a lot of power and the coaches, selectors and managers are getting sacked. Earlier, the chairman was under fire for the team’s performances but now whoever says anything is getting sideline,” Basit Ali said.

Basit feels that Kirsten was not in favour of Mohammad Rizwan leading Pakistan in white-ball formats.

“Gary was against Rizwan getting the captaincy in shorter formats but his request was turned down. He wanted complete control of the team but forget that system doesn’t work like that in Pakistan. He also demanded another player in the team but now both of them are not part of the national squad,” he added.
